From Buttercup Cottage
The seasonal letter of Once Upon a Connection, a somatic healing and intuitive art studio · Buttercup Cottage, Historic Ellicott City, Maryland
It's spooky season in one of America's most haunted little towns, and I am writing to you from inside a storybook: a cottage built in 1890, on a lane of healers, with a dragon at the door and a fall calendar that is bursting. New classes. New magic. Technology I've dreamed of bringing you. A season built for exactly what October does to us: turns us inward, makes us braver, and lets us play with the mysterious. I cannot wait to show you all of it. And IT includes: a season of classes that are intuitive, a little witchy, deeply somatic, and made for healing; magic meeting science through vibroacoustics and biofeedback; Limena and her trademark; and a famous psychic who found me in an airport. YEP. READ ON!
And I'll share the very human part of this story, because it belongs to you too: I did not want this move. Leaving my beloved Tower was beyond my control, and I resisted it with everything in me. But the universe wasted absolutely no time showing me why it had to happen. The cottage holds the work the way the work always wanted to be held. The neighborhood is a lane of healers and makers who welcomed me like family. There's room now for the small candlelit circles AND the big art-filled nights. Sometimes the cauldron gets hot because something is transforming in it, and like Wren leaving her lighthouse for her cottage on the hill, I came out of that fire more myself than I've ever been. Buttercup Cottage is the full bloom of Once Upon a Connection. And you're invited into every petal of it.
From the cottage,
Shannon
Take It Back a linguistic reclamation night
Slut. Witch. Crazy. Too much. Every woman carries a word that was used to make her smaller. Through breathwork, somatic grounding, and ritual burning, you'll strip that word of the power someone else gave it and fill it with power you choose.
You Were Born With A Compass a four part intuition journey
Four candlelit evenings to meet the intuition you were born carrying: paint it into evidence, learn the language it speaks, build the felt skill to pause and sense and act, then practice trusting it in real time with the circle behind you. Kept intentionally tiny.
Mid Week Exhale we honor the pause
Half the week behind you, half still ahead. A guided evening meditation with somatic flair: find where the week is living in your body and practice the pause, the breath between what happens to you and what you do next. No experience needed, ever.
SEEING ME an illuminated art reveal night
After dark on purpose. The first-ever Illuminated Celebration of Body & Aura: a painting mapped from a real energetic field, lit from within by actual glowing light. The lights go down. The art comes on. Small room, big moment, RSVP required.
Your Somatic Signature
The bath never worked for you. The meditation app made your skin crawl. You were never broken; you were forcing someone else's style of calm. In two hours you'll sample the channels your body actually senses through and leave holding your own somatic signature.
Art Night: Paint Your Dragon
Everyone has a protector who rises when they need her. Meet yours in a guided somatic visualization, then paint her: scales, storm, glowing eyes, whatever she turns out to be. Zero art experience required, all supplies included.
The Moon, She Cradles
Once a month, she rocks you home, and she is never the same twice: one month a sound bath poured over you, another stillness and deep warmth, and some months she has something to tell you. Her debut rises with the waxing Hunter's Moon, the old gathering moon. This month, she gathers you in. Each month's form is revealed only to the email list.
Discover and Call on Your Goddess
On the eve of the veil, we go looking for the woman in the old stories who moves the way you secretly move. Somatic sensing and intuition lead you to her, the ancient archetypes name her, and you leave with her story and an archetype art piece you made in the room.
Art Night: The Suncatcher Evening
Back by demand: crystal suncatcher making, good company, and the particular calm of working with your hands. Every catcher leaves finished and ready to hang, just in time to become the handmade gift people keep for years. If it makes it past your own window.
Remarkable No. 1The cottage is getting a heartbeat
An exceptional professional vibroacoustic system, the inHarmony Practitioner 2, is coming to the studio. The full story is below, because this one deserves its own chapter.
Remarkable No. 2You'll be able to watch your own calm
HeartMath heart coherence biofeedback is already on its way to the cottage, and with it, the answer to every woman who has ever asked "am I doing it right?" Read on below.
Remarkable No. 3Limena is getting her trademark
The Limena Method, the somatic imaginal practice born in my studio, is officially on her way to becoming a registered trademark. She has a name, she has a home, and now she'll have her papers.
Remarkable No. 4A famous psychic found me. In an airport.
My mind is still blown. She came up to ME. She knew, without a word from me, that I am a healer and an intuitive. She called it, plainly, out loud. And what happened next is a story I'm still wrapping my head around. The whole tale is coming soon to She Writes, my blog.

What it is. The Practitioner 2 is inHarmony's professional vibroacoustic therapy system, built specifically for healing practices: a full-length therapeutic pad, over six feet long, that lies right on top of the treatment table. Inside it, two tactile transducers driven by a 100-watt amplifier translate specially composed music into low, resonant vibration in the 20 to 200 Hz range, the frequencies the body feels rather than hears. Music streams by Bluetooth from a library composed for exactly this purpose, and the whole system is FDA-registered as a Class I therapeutic device with a lifetime limited warranty.
What it does. Vibroacoustic therapy pairs what you hear with what you physically feel, so sound stops being something that happens near you and becomes something that moves through you. Because the vibration meets the body directly, in sensation, its own first language, guests consistently describe profound full-body relaxation, quieted mental chatter, and the rare experience of being completely held. It is one of the most loved tools in modern relaxation practice for a reason: across 78 published customer reviews, the Practitioner 2 holds a perfect five stars.
The benefits. Deep rest is not a luxury; it is the state in which the nervous system repairs, digests, and softens its guard. Vibroacoustic sessions are used by practitioners to support relaxation, ease stress and tension held in the body, and help guests drop into stillness far faster than willpower alone can take them. For a nervous system that spends its days braced, forty-five minutes of being physically rocked by sound is an invitation it doesn't have to be talked into.
How it fits my practice: everything at OUAC begins with a settled body, because deep somatic relaxation is the doorway to all the rest of the work. Imagine receiving Reiki while sound moves through you like a slow tide. Imagine beginning Limena from a body that has already been rocked open. Imagine a rest session where the mat, the warmth, and my voice are all saying the same thing: you can put it down now. That is where we're headed. I am investing heavily in this studio because you deserve the exceptional.
HeartMath Heart Coherence Biofeedback

What it is. The Inner Balance Coherence Plus is a small ear-clip sensor that samples your pulse 500 times per second and translates your heart rate variability, the tiny beat-to-beat changes in your heart rhythm, into a live coherence score that updates every five seconds. Coherence is the measurable state in which your heart rhythm becomes smooth and ordered and your breathing, blood pressure, and brain waves begin to synchronize with it. People in coherence describe feeling calm, balanced, and composed. Now you can watch yourself get there.
The science. This is the flagship tool of the HeartMath Institute, which has spent more than 30 years researching the heart-brain connection, with over 80 peer-reviewed studies behind its methods. In HeartMath's own outcome research across thousands of program participants, people practicing these techniques for six to nine weeks reported improvements including 36 percent better sleep, 49 percent greater calmness, and substantial reductions in anxiety, fatigue, and anger. Rooted in science is not a slogan here. It is a citation list.
What it offers you. For every woman who has ever said "I don't know if I'm doing it right," this is the answer: you'll see it. A real-time score turns something invisible into something you can practice, and because the sensor pairs with guided techniques you keep on your own phone, the skill comes home with you. Your breath is the instrument. The screen just proves what your body already learned.
This isn't me buying devices. It's OUAC joining a movement of science-backed healing, and it's you learning to negotiate a peace treaty with your own nervous system.
"With multiple modalities under one roof, two people can finally heal side by side, one wrapped in sound, one in warmth, both arriving back at each other softer."
Until now, only my clients have known her. It's time you did too.
The Limena Method™ is a guided somatic imaginal practice born in my studio: a practice that helps a woman discover a positive connection back to herself and give that connection a home in her nervous system. Not a visualization you watch and forget, but a place that becomes yours, one you can return to long after the session ends. My clients tell me, independently of one another, the very same thing: it feels like home.
Limena lives inside 1:1 work at the cottage, and she extends to couples as well, creating a special place that rests in their fibers. A place just for them.
That is all I'll say for now, because Limena deserves her own telling. Her trademark is underway, her story is written, and I'll be sharing much more about her in the coming weeks. Consider this her first candle in the window.
Some of my favorite work happens on the page. As a contributing writer for Kiss & Tell Magazine, I write about the places where the body, intimacy, and healing meet, including the conversations most of us were taught to whisper. My latest piece is called "Where Did My Clit Go? A Somatic Healer's Journey Through Clitoral Atrophy and Menopause," and it is exactly what it sounds like: what actually happens, why nobody tells you, and what you can do about it. It is the article I needed someone to hand me, so I wrote it.
What does "somatic" actually mean?
Soma is the Greek word for the living body: not the body as a machine you carry your head around in, but the body as the place where your whole life is actually happening. Somatic healing simply means working with that body directly, through sensation, breath, movement, and rest, instead of only talking about what it holds.
Here's the piece most of us were never taught: your nervous system is always reading the room, deciding between protection and connection long before your thinking mind weighs in. When it has spent years braced, calm isn't a decision you can make. It's a skill your body learns, gently and with repetition. That is the whole heart of this studio: not fixing you, because you were never broken, but teaching your body that it is finally safe enough to soften.
"It's so hard to explain [Somatic Healing]. You can only FEEL it. You are so talented in so many ways. Keep doing what you are doing because you are changing people's lives, mine included."
"When I started reading it, I got goosebumps. It was pure magic. The artwork combined with the messages and the music is such a powerful combination of experiences that touched all of my senses."
